10 Days Naivasha-Nakuru-Kericho-Kisumu-Lake Victoria-Volunteer Activities
Day 1 : Nairobi - Lake Naivasha
The tour starts at 8.00am from Nairobi heading to Naivasha with a brief stop at the viewpoint of the Great Rift Valley. On arrival, settle at a hotel or lodge. After lunch, visit Lake Naivasha (fresh water lake in the rift valley) for birds, hippos and plain game at the Hell's gate National park. Boat ride to the crescent island is magnificent combined with a walk to see the game. Dinner and night at your hotel or lodge.
Day 2: Lake Naivasha - Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast drive to Lake Nakuru National park with packed lunch served in the park, the park is known to be the bird’s sanctuary, it is so called because the entire surface of the lake is covered by both the lesser and greater flamingoes, this park is also known for it’s big five excluding the Elephants, it is the only park in Kenya where you are assured of seeing both the white and the black rhinos, be back to the hotel or lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Lake Nakuru National Park - Kericho Tea Plantation.
An early breakfast drive to Kericho tea plantation an agro tourism safari that involves the agriculture on how its done on various plants. The Kericho concentrates much in tea production, this will assure you get to understand the production of the tea from stage one of picking the tea leaves till the final product of the tea. Its a safari that no farmer fails to visit to. This introduces the guest on the challenges face during the production and how they are overcome. Dinner and overnight in Kericho town.
Day 4 : Kericho - Kisumu City.
An early breakfast leaves us with time to walk in the tea estates and especially the renowned Tea Hotel to see leaves being picked (it’s in the center of estates surrounded by manicured lawns]. After lunch, proceed to Kisumu, a town on the shores of L. Victoria ( the biggest fresh water lake in Africa: second the world over). Dinner and night at a Kisumu Hotel.
Day 5 : Kisumu City
Early morning, visit the impala game park for the antelopes, ostriches and a few caged mammals. Great chances of seeing Hippos in their natural habit at close range. Dunga beach is well known for fishing and possibility to see the rare swamp antelopes sitatunga. After lunch, take a city tour including the museum, one of the oldest markets in Kenya and slum dwelling. Dinner and night in your hotel.
Day 6 : Kisumu - Wagusu to Volunteer with KVCDP
After breakfast, leave Kisumu to wagusu via Kit-Mikayi, a legendary stone of the area. Lunch in Bondo town, dinner and overnight at the village. Sunset is magnificent and the air is fresh with a deafening silence at night. Look at the sky, the lake and contrast it to where you stand.
Day 7 - Day 9: Work Sites - Home Visits - Local tours
Volunteer shall be placed in different fields including Hospitals, Day Care Centers, Orphanages and Schools. Volunteer in Hospitals will be helping the nurses on duty as they learn and experience more in the hospitals. You will work hand in hand with the staff in order to achieve your goals and make friends while discovering more on the types of diseases that affect Africans and how they handle the patients. We request that you be very accommodative because you might not expect to find the same treatment given to patients the same as your country and sometimes it might appear very unusual to you. Just try your best to share your ideas with the staff and very friendly to learn more. Ask questions where necessary however, you are reminded to maintain confidentiality ethics and not to stigmatize or discriminate any of the people you meet in the course of your work. Packed lunch will be served at the hospital dining hall.
Children - Those in the children program shall be involved in participatory learning with children, babysitting, cooking and feeding, helping the younger children to learn how to use the toilet, maintaining hygiene, assisting the older OVCs with their homework, administration and community outreach work as may be requested among others.
Day 10 : Wagusu - Nairobi.
After breakfast, leave Wagusu for Nairobi with lunch enroute. The tour ends in Nairobi at around 5.00 pm.
