Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu Game Reserve
Kickstart the safari from your hotel/residence in Nairobi at 7:30 am heading north through to the northern frontier district and on to Samburu Game Reserve. Arrive in Samburu National Reserve in time for lunch at your lodge or tented camp. Afternoon game drive is in this reserve for its exclusive game viewing, you get to enjoy the final catch of the wildlife as they are out of their hides getting their dinner and sunbathing before dark, the sunset views in the reserve are also amazing at that time. Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge/camp
Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve (Full Day)
Have your breakfast at 0600hrs and leave the camp/ lodge with a packed picnic lunch at 0630hrs. Spend the entire day exploring Samburu Game Reserve which is somewhat off the beaten path, so you’ll enjoy a wild game park with fewer tourists and a lot of photogenic scenic views.
You will get the chance to spot iconic wildlife, including buffalo, lions, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as species unique to the region such as the Beisa oryx, long-necked gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, Reticulated giraffe, and Somali ostrich. It is also home to over 450 species of birds, including the lesser kestrel, vulturine guinea fowl, and the Taita falcon.
You can depart the park in the late afternoon and head down to the Samburu villages to get a chance to experience the local culture of the Samburu people. Dinner and Overnight will be at the lodge/camp
Day 3: Samburu Game Reserve to Aberdares National Park.
After morning heavy breakfast and pack your bags, embark on one last adventure safari and head over to your morning game drive, as you bid farewell to the reserve heading south to Aberdares National park, the option is to spend a night in one of the two unusual tree lodges in the Aberdare National Park. Treetops Lodge where Princes Elizabeth stayed in 1952 in the night that her father died and she became the Queen, or the Ark Lodge built in the shape of Noah's Ark. At night, stay up to watch the game activities over the floodlit waterholes. This park is unusual in that it lies above 21,000m (68,880 ft.) and so has a more alpine feel, with mountains, streams, valleys and moorland by the doorstep. Dinner and overnight at the lodge in Aberdares.
Day 4: Aberdares National Park to Lake Nakuru National Park
After another morning breakfast, your safari will head to Lake Nakuru National Park. Situated just a stone's throw from Nakuru town, the attractive Lake Nakuru National Park surrounds the Lake of the same name, which is a haven for the pink lesser flamingo as well as hippos. Other species include various antelope, giraffe, zebra, lion, rhino and leopard (which can actually be spotted during daylight hours in the arms of the giant yellow acacia trees near the entrance). Enjoy the great view from the park's rocky escarpments and ridges. Accommodation can be at the Lake Nakuru Lodge or Lake nakuru Sopa Lodge.
Day 5 : Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara National Reserve
Have breakfast at your lodge then bid Nakuru goodbye as you drive to Masai Mara. You will be welcomed with a scrumptious lunch at the lodge upon arrival. Rest a bit then head into the park for an afternoon game drive. It is one of the few places left on earth where wildlife still lives comparatively undisturbed, in the numbers that once roamed the plains and forests of Africa. As the northern tip of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara hosts the spectacular seasonal migration of many thousands of wildebeests, zebras and attendant predators. Drive back to the lodge /camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 : Masai Mara National Reserve (Full Day)
This day you will be exploring the Masai Mara extensively. Packed lunch will be served picnic-style inside the park close to the Mara river. The reserve is well known for its black-maned lions and abundant resident wildlife, and it's one of the few places where it's possible to see the Big Five during a morning's game drive. Many cheetahs are so used to vehicles that they seek shelter from the hot sun under them, and several even climb onto the roof to get a better view of prospective prey. Return to your lodge / camp in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 7 : Masai Mara National Reserve to Nairobi.
After breakfast you can have an optional visit to the Masai village. Here you will learn about the pristine culture of the Masai tribe. Afterwards drive back to Nairobi and being dropped off at your city hotel/JKIA Airport depending on your flight timings.
